Under the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act (S.C. Code Ann. §§ 30-4-10 et seq.), any person may request to inspect or obtain copies of the City’s public records. Requests are made using the City’s official FOIA Request Form.
How to Submit a Request
A signed request form must be submitted one of three ways:
- In person at Walhalla City Hall, 206 N. Church St., Walhalla, SC 29691
- By mail to City of Walhalla, Attn: City Administrator, P.O. Box 1099, Walhalla, SC 29691
- By email
Faxed requests are not accepted.
Fees
A minimum fee of $3.00 must be included with every request, this covers staff time and is paid upon receipt of the records. Additional fees may apply depending on what’s requested:
- Minimum charge for all requests – $3.00, paid upon receipt of records
- Hard copies – $0.20 per page
- Staff time to search, retrieve, or redact records – $20.00 per hour, per employee
- Other media used to provide records – actual cost to the City
- Requests expected to take more than 5 hours of staff time require a deposit of 1/4 of the estimated cost before work begins
Please Note
South Carolina law (S.C. Code § 30-2-50) prohibits knowingly using public records obtained from the City for commercial solicitation. Violating this is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in prison or a fine of up to $500. Submitting a request constitutes acknowledgment of this prohibition.
