Chapter 131 of the City of Walhalla Code of Ordinances requires any person, firm, or corporation engaged in business within the City to obtain a business license. Originally adopted as Ordinance No. 2021-29 (effective May 1, 2022) to bring the City into compliance with South Carolina’s Business License Tax Standardization Act (Act No. 176 of 2020), the ordinance sets license fees based on gross income and the standardized business license rate classification system. It also establishes the grounds on which a license may be denied, suspended, or revoked, including unpaid taxes or fees, unlawful activity connected to the business, or certain criminal convictions within the prior 10 years, along with the appeal process for license decisions. Operating a business in the City without a required license is a misdemeanor. The rate schedule (Appendix A) was most recently updated in February 2024.
