Current City Projects

The City of Walhalla is currently working on several capital improvement projects. Status below reflects the most recent progress report available; contact City Administration for current status on any project.

This project will allow the City to collect fees from visitors to assist with the upkeep of the park.

95% complete as of last report. All major work complete; finishing electrical work and final paneling. Expected completion on the building structure was August 31st, with entry gate installation expected late summer/early fall.

80% complete as of last report. Interior work ongoing with electrical work nearly complete. Plumbing and finish work ongoing. Expected completion was late summer/early fall, depending on contractor availability.

5% complete as of last report. Design-Build project awarded to JM Cope (see RFQ 2025-03 on the Bids & RFPs page). The design, planning, and permit phase was underway, with groundbreaking to be announced. Expected completion 2026.

A three-division project (see the SCIIP A-23-C202 RFQs on the Bids & RFPs page):

Div. I – Gravity Sewer Rehab: Cleaning and inspection of the gravity sewers complete; sewer line rehabilitation underway using cure-in-place methods.

Div. II – Water System Improvements: Contractor ordering the Rocky Knoll water booster pump station equipment and building; new water main installation along SC 28 Highland Highway to follow once the pump station has a firm delivery date.

Div. III – Water System Rehabilitation: Contractor installing roadway bores and water main along W. North Broad Street, W. South Broad Street, and West Main Street.

The City has received several quotes to repair the bridge and is working with FEMA to obtain Hurricane Helene disaster funding to replace the structure. A temporary pedestrian bridge is planned to ensure public access for fall sports and events.

Applying for a Special Event Permit

Any outside organization hosting a public event in Walhalla needs a Special Event Permit before the event can be approved. Here’s what to know before you apply.

⏱ Submit at least 60 days before your event

Applications received fewer than 60 days out may not be processed in time. Plan accordingly.

What you’ll need

  1. Completed Special Event Permit Application
  2. Non-refundable $100 application fee
  3. Proof of $1,000,000 liability insurance naming the City of Walhalla as co-insured
  4. All vendors (including entertainers) must hold a current Walhalla business license
  5. Food vendors must additionally register for and collect the city’s 2% hospitality tax

  • City Green — N Catherine Street & Main Street (next to Arby’s)
  • Brown Square — Main Street & College Street
  • City facilities (Depot, Old St. John’s, Recreation Facilities) — these also require a separate RecDesk reservation

Water Service Changes

Water service must be started, stopped, or transferred in person at City Hall. Walk-ins welcome as no appointment is needed.

Starting service

Bring the following to the office:

  • Valid government-issued photo ID
  • Renters: your signed lease agreement or a completed New Tenant Form (available at the office)
  • Businesses: also bring proof of passing Fire Marshal inspection

Bring a valid photo ID. If you’re a renter, the property owner may also need to be notified — confirm with the office if unsure.

Apply for a Utility Tap

New water and sewer tap applications must be submitted in person and require sign-off from both the City and OJRSA before a tap can be approved.

How to apply

  1. Download and complete both forms below
  2. Bring completed forms to the Water Department at 206 N Church Street
  3. Contact OJRSA separately to confirm capacity at your address as  the City cannot approve the tap until OJRSA signs off
  4. Allow additional processing time for OJRSA review
