Departments / Municipal Court
Walhalla Municipal Court, presided over by the Honorable Roberta Barton, handles traffic tickets and other municipal violations within the city.
Questions about a scheduled court date, continuance, or payment: contact the Clerk of Court at (864) 638-4341.
Check your Uniform Traffic Ticket or Bond Hearing form for the date and time of your appearance. Most court appearances are required in person, and continuances are considered case by case; contact the Clerk of Court with questions. If you are not contesting the charge, some tickets can be paid prior to your court date by cash, money order, or certified check, though certain charges require an appearance regardless.
Failing to pay a ticket can result in suspension of driving privileges or a bench warrant. Failing to appear can result in a trial held in your absence, and failing to comply with a sentence can also result in a bench warrant.
Every citizen is entitled to a trial by a jury of their peers. Requests can be made in person or in writing before the scheduled trial date; once a jury trial is requested, you are not required to attend the original court date. A pre-trial conference is typically scheduled within four to six weeks of the request, and if the matter isnāt resolved there, the next available jury trial date is assigned. Direct jury trial questions to the Clerk of Court at (864) 638-4341.
Three diversion programs may allow eligible cases to be dismissed and the arrest record cleared upon completion. All three are administered through the Tenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office at the Oconee County Courthouse, not through Municipal Court directly:
Applications for AEP and PTI must be submitted to the Solicitor’s Office before your scheduled court date — neither program accepts applications after a court appearance. If accepted, the Solicitor’s Office will contact you to schedule program enrollment.
